Day 2

Hey all! I'm finally in Window Rock, like I said to a friend: I saw some cows in the road, and some puppies in the parking lot, it brought back a sense of nostalgia.

Today started out with a delicious breakfast with friends at the Santa Fe Baking Co. Walking inside there was the smell of awesome pastries fresh out of the oven, coffee, eggs and bacon. To my surprise, there was also live music. In the corner, a man played guitar. He was so good, I thought there was a Bob Dylan CD on, until of course I realized it was him.

After our meal, we headed over to the farmers market by the train station. It was very similar to ones I've seen on the east coast, but there were WAY more chilis.

After parting ways with my friends, I went over to the Georgia O'Keefe Museum. It was stunning. Her watercolors were so interesting, so bold and full of color. I was able to see that she seemed to pick apart her landscapes and turn them into shapes. It may not seem too interesting to others, but to me it was, I'm going to try picking apart the landscape when I paint tomorrow. There was also a series of portraits on exhibit, from looking at them and reading little quotes she said on the wall, I really feel like I can relate to her. Should I ever get a time traveling Delorean, I will definatly go back and meet her.

I then headed to Hobby Lobby to get supplies, and began to the long journey to Window Rock. Can I say how weird it is that the speed limit is 75 mph!? I almost felt guilty driving so fast, but in the end it was alot of fun. The landscape along the way was breathtaking, over each hill was something new. At one point I was surrounded by a field of old magma rocks! Then there were big red rock, jagged rocks, lots of rocks. I have pictures, but the hotel internet doesn't want to load pictures anymore :('

Finally, I rolled on into Window Rock. Like I said, there were cows and dogs and it was all good. Tomorrow, blue mush at the breakfast buffet and a visit to the Navajo Code Talkers Memorial.

Albuquerque/Santa Fe

Finally here! The sun is shining, the temperature is tolerable, the landscape is enchanting. On the way to Santa Fe I saw some beautiful rolling hills, a pale green hue with grass that looked like fur growing on top of them. Mountains were on the right side of me, flat land reaching out for what seems like hundreds of miles on the left. I really wanted to take pictures for you guys, but I was just so tired when I got off the plane I figured it would be a good idea to use the rest of my energy driving safety to Santa Fe. Speaking of which, it was so amazing seeing an entire city square with strictly adobe buildings! It was playful, people were sitting and chatting, some musicians played their instruments. And the Georgia O'Keefe Museum is there too!

I'm currently staying with friends in their lovely apartment here in Santa Fe. Tonight, a little dinner party, tomorrow a journey into town and on my way to Window Rock.

Getting Ready!

Hey everyone! The big day is tomorrow, and I've been busy doing some last minute packing. I'll be updating everyday, assuming I'll be able to get internet everywhere I go. Stay tuned for updates!

A Busy Month...

As this month is flying by rather quickly, I realize that there's so much to do in preparation for my residency at The Petrified Forest National Park! Aside from hotels and car rentals, I need to start thinking about what materials I'll need and where I'm going to get them. Moving out here made me really take for granted having a number of different art stores in my general vicinity. I just can't find the quality or variety of certain products, which is a shame really because I know I've found going to a store and experimenting with unfamiliar, unusual materials always led to an interesting tangent.

Otherwise, not too much artistically has happened since the craft fair. Maybe it's the anxiety for November (Which is also start paying of your loan month BTW)? I'm not sure, but something has to happen soon!

Craft Fair Results!

Jeanie 2 and Mesa

Hey everyone! So this is happening:

The circle in the middle is an image of a wall plaque I bought on the Hopi Reservation, and below it is going to be the mesa itself.

Also, working on Jeanie 2 right now, a smaller exploration of the original concept. It's rough looking right now, but I think it will pull through.

Both are acrylic, 20x24 inches. Updates on these works soon!
